AAUW of Georgia
State Convention

The AAUW of GA State Convention is scheduled for April 2-3, 2008.  The portion on April 2 will involve leadership training for state and branch leaders.  The draft Vision Statement for AAUW of GA reads: "Through community leadership and collaboration, AAUW of Georgia will improve equity, access, and opportunity for women and girls.  AAUW of GA will
empower women and girls and will provide a forum for their voices to be heard."

On April 2nd, convention attendees will be asked to vote on three public policy issues that the state and branches will pursue over the next two years.  The list that we will vote from is as follows:

1.) STEM education in Georgia (Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Math for girls, possibly at summer camps on campuses
2.) School vouchers in Georgia
3.) Health insurance policy in Georgia
4.) Reproductive rights policy in Georgia
5.) Human trafficking and child prostitution in Georgia
6.) Pay equity
7.) 4 ERA
8.) Sexual Harrassment in Georgia schools
9.) A Discussion of Race and Ethnicity in Georgia
10.) A Discussion of Economic policies, personal and public, in uncertain economic times
11.) Solutions to low test scores in Georgia
12.) Solutions to low graduation rates in Georgia

On April 3, AAUW members will attend the Phenomenal Women's Conference hosted by the Siegel Institute at Kennesaw State University
(www.siegelinstitute.org/).  This will be an exciting opportunity for AAUW to network with leaders and members from other women's organizations across the state.  Think of the possibilities for collaboration!  (Please click here for the registration information.)

Sincerely,
Lynn Fountain, President
