The AAUW of GA State Convention is scheduled for April 2-3, 2008.
The portion on April 2 will involve leadership training for state and
branch leaders. The draft Vision Statement for AAUW of GA reads:
"Through community leadership and collaboration, AAUW of Georgia will
improve equity, access, and opportunity for women and girls. AAUW of GA
will
empower women and girls and will provide a forum for their voices to
be heard."
On April 2nd, convention attendees will be asked to vote
on three public policy issues that the state and branches will pursue over
the next two years. The list that we will vote from is as
follows:
1.) STEM education in Georgia (Science, Technology, Engineering,
and
Math for girls, possibly at summer camps on campuses
2.) School
vouchers in Georgia
3.) Health insurance policy in Georgia
4.)
Reproductive rights policy in Georgia
5.) Human trafficking and child
prostitution in Georgia
6.) Pay equity
7.) 4 ERA
8.) Sexual Harrassment
in Georgia schools
9.) A Discussion of Race and Ethnicity in Georgia
10.)
A Discussion of Economic policies, personal and public, in uncertain economic
times
11.) Solutions to low test scores in Georgia
12.) Solutions to low
graduation rates in Georgia
On April 3, AAUW members will attend the
Phenomenal Women's Conference hosted by the Siegel Institute at Kennesaw
State University
(
www.siegelinstitute.org/).
This will be an exciting opportunity for AAUW to network with leaders and
members from other women's organizations across the state. Think of the
possibilities for collaboration!
